Our Classes

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: Fundamentals &

Mixed Levels

Our daily Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes are open to all belts and consist of a technical class followed by sparring. Our mixed classes offer the perfect opportunity to learn new techniques and roll with members of different experience levels.

Regardless of your skill or fitness level, our expert coaches are there to ensure everyone gets something out of the class, no matter which session you choose to attend.

Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

As well as a great way to keep fit, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a great way to kids to learn self discipline, self defence and self confidence.

Our classes are designed for kids from 5 onwards and will teach the fundamentals for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in a safe, fun and structured environment, making sure they get the most out of each class.

Muay Thai

Muay Thai is a devastating striking art which allows attacks using the hands, feet, knees and elbows. It’s a dynamic sport in its own right and has frequently been shown to be highly effective in MMA.

In his classes, experienced coach Zac Wakefield will build you from the ground up and make sure that regardless of fitness level or prior experience, there will be something for everyone in his classes.

Classes are on Tuesdays from 17:00 and Sunday mornings at 09:30.

Wrestling for BJJ

Our wrestling classes have been designed primarily with a Jiu Jitsu focus. Good wrestling allows you to take control of the match early by getting your opponent to the ground, keeping them there giving you additional time to find that submission victory.

Our wrestling classes take place every Wednesday at 18:00.

 FAQs

  • Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art focused around controlling an opponent using technique, pressure and leverage. It can be practiced with a Gi or without, and the aim is to safely neutralise your opponent and win via a joint lock, or a choke.

Because of the focus on control and the absence of strikes Jiu Jitsu sparring can be done safely and regularly without needing the same amount of time to recover as would be needed with striking martial arts.

Jiu Jitsu rose in popularity thanks to demonstrations of jiu jitsu fighters successfully defeating stronger & larger opponents through the use of technique and control. This is what makes jiu jitsu a great martial art for everyone regardless of their size, gender or physical strength.

  • Feel free to come down to any session listed on the timetable. Every one of our classes is suitable to people with no previous experience in Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling or Muay Thai. If you have any other questions prior to starting, click here to get in touch.

  • There is no minimum fitness level or upper age limit when it comes Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. All our techniques, drills and sparring can be tailored to suit your fitness goal and ability.

We ask that if you’re currently dealing with an injury, you let us know. That way we can ensure our drills and techniques suitable and safe for you.

  • For your first few sessions, a clean set of t-shirt and workout shorts/bottoms will work just fine. We ask that you ensure that your clothing is free from buckles, pockets or zips as these could scratch your training partners or catch their fingers in the middle of rolls.

We have a strict policy of no shoes on the mat and no bare feet off the mat. For your convenience we recommend wearing shoes that are easy to take off/put on as you walk between the matted and non matted areas of the gym. If needed, we have a number of spare flip flops which are disinfected every session.

If you need more information on what to wear, feel free to drop us a line and one of our coaches will be in touch.

  • A gi is not required to attend any of our classes.

While we don’t have any gi or no-gi specific sessions, members are welcome and encouraged to train in the uniform they prefer. During class techniques can then be adapted to ensure everyone has something to work on, whether or not they’re wearing a gi.

  • If it’s your first time training with us, your first session is free. Similarly, you can drop in for free if you’re visiting town and need somewhere to train.

We offer different membership options depending on how frequently you’d like to train - for more information, take a look at our pricing page.
