Our Coaches
Alex Vernon
Beginning in 2015, Alex has over 7 years experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. A BJJ brown belt under internationally renowned coach Priit Mihkelson, Alex is a seasoned competitor, winning multiple medals across regional and national competitions in both gi and no-gi.
Alex brings a keen attention to detail and technique to his coaching and he’s passionate about ensuring everyone gets something out of the class, regardless of their skill level.
Matthew Stuart
Matthew started grappling in 2010 as part of of his MMA training. After 7 years in MMA, Matthew transitioned to Jiu Jitsu full-time and was awarded his brown belt in 2020. Matthew went on to win gold in his division in the 2021 British No-Gi Open.
Matthew thinks that as a coach he should be able to take something he’s good at and break it down into bite-sized pieces that his students can start using immediately. He’s a firm believer that if you’re not leaving with a better understanding than you had when you entered, your coach hasn’t done their job.
Siobhan Clifford
Siobhan is a brown belt with 8 years of experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Since starting 2015, Siobhan is an experienced competitor, competing at the European Trials at blue belt and ADCC invitational at Brown. Siobhan has had the opportunity to train in various parts of the world including Germany, Iceland and Vietnam.
Siobhan is passionate about making it as easy as possible for more women to get started in the sport. She established the women’s class at Peak Jiu Jitsu with this goal in mind, to provide a comfortable space for women both new and experienced to come together to train.
Cees Jansen-Dear
Having first started in 2014, Cees is an experienced grappler who despite being ‘only’ a brown belt, fights at a national level in BJJ competitions.
His strong love for leg locks in particular is matched by his desire for all of the students in his classes to develop their skills quickly through offering high quality instruction.
